our seed mix only days before taking the photo!
Now grow your own tortoises from seed! Why incubate eggs and waste
all that time when you can...oh, wait. Never mind. A great pasture seed
mix! This is a mixture of seeds specially designed to grow your own
tortoise food. Our mix is custom blended several times a year and includes
a variety of grasses (including Bermuda which is native to Africa),
millets, clovers, mixed greens, and other non-toxic tortoise favorites
which vary with each season. Not what you would want to grow a lawn
with (especially since we try to put dandelion in when we can), but
great eating for your tortoise. The seed mix should be sown onto prepared
soil and slightly raked in. Keep well watered until established. Could
also be grown in pots or flats if you don't have an outdoor place to
grow weeds. We plant these year round here, and should grow year round
except where there is snow. Sold in packets or by the pound. One packet
will sow about 2-4 sq ft. of space. This seed mix is excellent for all
types of tortoises - we also include dandelion seeds when available.
Our seed mix is top quality not pre-bagged
foraging mix sold for cattle and deer - we make it ourselves and feed
it to our own tortoises.

tortoises food like Pretty Pets, ZooMed, or Mazuri - these will lead
to health and shell problems!!!!

Dwarf Grass Description:
This is very similar to regular elephant grass except
that it only gets about 4 feet tall. It does not have tall canes, but
very short ones that gives the blades the appearance of coming
straight from the ground. It also grows thicker than regular elephant
grass and is a darker green color. I use this grass to screen fences
that I need to be able to see over. The nutritional value of this grass
is also higher. (I got the original plants of both species from my cousin
who was studying the nutritional value of forage crops at UF at the
time.) This grass is not quite as easy to propagate as the big elephant
grass since it doesn't have the long canes to bury. This must be divided
at the roots, which is what we will send.

Immuno-Boost - Calcium Supplements
Our exclusive powdered supplement to be sprinkled on your tortoises
favorite treat. Aids in building your tortoises immune system by providing
beneficial bacteria (contains a source of live (viable) naturally occurring
microorganisms + the added benefit of calcium and vitamin D3 for strong
bone/shell development. We have also added grapefruit seed extract to
this mix, which is supposed to help rid your tortoise of Salmonella
(which is not harmful to your tortoise, but can cause problems in humans
that are in contact with their feces). The only supplement your tortoise,
lizard, or other reptile will ever need!!! Phosphorous Free!
Normally we package the mix in zip-loc bags (double bagged) but occasionally
we package them in resealable plastic containers. This mix is best kept
in the refrigerator, tightly sealed, once opened to make sure that the
beneficial bacteria stay viable. It will not be harmful to use it if
it is left out- your tortoise just won't get the maximum benefit. We
recommend sprinkling this like you would salt on your tortoises favorite
food 2-3 times per week. This is the only supplement your tortoise will
need - but please be sure to provide your tortoise with the proper food
in addition to a quality calcium supplement such as our's.
