How Great Thou Art

Little Annie's Art Book of Etiquette

Recommended ages: 4-9

$14.95 or $16.95 with crayons and drawing pencils

This book will take care of manners, art, and Bible lessons all in one! Learn social skills along with scripture and art. I love this spiral bound book! Lessons for the dinner table, being attentive, saying please and thank you, obeying you parents, thank you cards, and much more! Over 100 pages!

You may reproduce the pages for home use, but by purchasing a separate book for each child, you will end up with an adorable keepsake! I would suggest purchasing a book for each child and then making copies for yourself and any child under 4 that can scribble. I sat down with our 2, 4, and 6 year olds and read the narrative and scripture, then we all did the art lesson on that page, then colored in "Annie" and any other drawings on the page. By coloring with your child you can demonstrate proper coloring techniques like not leaving any white areas on a space they want colored and outlining in a bolder color.

This is not just "fun and play" art. Your child will learn the difference between warm and cool colors, drawing skills, complimentary colors, perspective, handwriting, and more. Some fun activity games are also included (like a cotton spoon relay game). As far as manners are concerned, this book goes beyond the obvious. You will be teaching the difference between flattery and genuine compliments, good posture, and more!

Purchase some quality colored pencils for each child. Prismacolor pencils and great!

I Can Do All Things

Recommended ages 6+

$42.95

This three year curriculum covers drawing, painting, and color theory. The 225 spiral bound pages also include an introduction to art history. Bible verses and quotes are included throughout. You will need prismacolor pencils and color markers. There are also videos to go along with it, but I have not seen them. It is an "all in one book". Most books just teach "some" art. The content in this book is much of what I learned at Parsons school of design in NY. It is meant to last 3 years, doing 1 lesson per day. Marker and Paint cards are included which are on thicker paper so that the paints and markers will not soak through the pages.

Lambs Book of Art

Recommended ages: 8+

$14.95

This one year curriculum teaches color theory, anatomy, perspective, nature studies, portraits, cartooning, lettering, creative writing, and more. With 70 daily lessons and 100 pages of fun! Some fun activities include: Seek and find puzzles, crossword puzzles, making your own newspaper, Bible studies, complete the story and then draw at picture, and making a cartoon strip. You will also learn poetry forms.

The Homeschool Art Guy

http://www.homeschoolartguy.com

I have to admit, I was not sure how an art video would go over with our girls (2-6 years old). I popped in the video and sat back and watched. All three girls sat perfectly still as they watched Keith Newton, artist and illustrator, not only teach simple yet effective drawing techniques, but also apply scripture! About 10 minutes into the video my 6 year old quietly got up and asked me if she could get some paper. She brought back plenty for everyone and all three girls sat down and drew along with the video. I was amazed at how they were able to understand what was being taught. There pictures of trees and animals turned out beautiful! Much more detailed than drawings they normally do.

I highly recommend these videos! I love how scripture is integrated! The tape we received for review is Tape 1: Shapes and Lines.

Draw-Write-Now

These are wonderful books. They step by step teach children how to draw familiar (and not so familiar) animals, people, and places. There are also blank notebooks with a space for drawing and a space for writing that are wonderful. In addition, they sell large format spiral bound paper with the same format. Our children have enjoyed using these. They build confidence as children see what they are capable of drawing.

Busy Bee Craft Bags

This company sells bags of crafts. Everything needed for the craft along with instructions are included in a ziplock bag. The ziplock bags are then sold individually or by sets (Bible, Butterfly, Alphabet, etc) and packaged very nicely in gift bags. Our older girls have enjoyed doing these crafts with their younger sisters.

Scribble Art

This is a book full of art ideas. Helps children and parents explore different art mediums using items found around the house.
